A bit of my story into painting…

Hello!

I have been meaning to write some blog posts for quite a long time… and I am really excited to be starting today!

For this first post I thought I should probably simply introduce myself, my work and this blog space…

I am Sybille, born and lived the first 27 years of my life in France, and lived abroad, now in (South Devon in the Uk ) for the other 15 years of my life ( do the maths😉). I have two young boys and hardly anytime to do anything but a couple of things that stick are painting and yoga/meditation/ a spiritual practice. And nature …

This might be quite boring but I personally always love to know how people got into doing what they are doing and to make it a little bit shorter than three pages long, I’ll start by saying that I have always loved making things, drawing, painting, crafting, baking and wanted to be a pastry chef when I was little- as well as a nurse- and to go to art school… guess which ones I actually did…

It turns out my idea of art school got totally crushed by my parents friend ( an art teacher at « les beaux arts ») who said I wasn’t good enough… I of course believed it and my parents - and possibly I too- thought it would be « safer » and wiser to do something else- preferably something like going to university and study something that will lead to loads of things ( it didn’t) . So I ended up going to University to study languages, and international business. Needless to say I absolutely hated it all. And felt quite low for many years. Apart from the wonderful possibility of studying abroad… that kept me going… and ended up in New Zealand for a year. Where I started practicing yoga. And being inspired by nature, the lifestyle…

Back to France, I was rather lost and desperate as I had no inclination to go work in an office at all. And instead launched myself into studying cooking. So I did become a chef, and a pastry chef!

Fast forward 10 years of cheffing, and many yoga teacher trainings in the midst, I became a yoga teacher. But the pull to create was always there… making food was creative but not quite in the same way as making art… and it’s during my first yoga teacher training that I started drawing again. At first simply to draw the postures so I could remember them and their names.

During an advanced teacher training where we spent a whole week in silence meditating 7h a day, my soul knocked on the door again and since then creating art just had to happen. And it has continued ever since. It feels so totally in harmony with myself. With meditation, art, and nature I am in harmony with myself. And that feels really good… so perhaps you can feel a glimpse of that through my art, or get inspired to get creating again…

I am inspired to create abstract, intuitive, soft and calm paintings. Often inspired by nature around me but more so a feeling I get there. Inspired by my spiritual practice too, most definitely. I love to create intuitively, and make my best paintings when I can let go of myself. When I can be in the flow, my hand guided by the flow…

I love to use watercolours and pastels. I am looking forward to having a go at oils at some point too…

I am always so grateful for anyone supporting my art and journey and if you have made it to the bottom of this page then thank you!

Do let me know what you might like to read here on this blog, I am thinking about sharing some of my process, my inspiration, perhaps some meditations, let’s see how it goes….

Sybille
