50 days of daily painting practice
I am halfway through a self imposed 100 day project, and my goal has been to simply paint every single day and to see what would come out… I have been posting everyday on Instagram so you can see it all there @sybillepouzet.
Some days it’s been 5 min, or other days a few hours, but mostly it’s been painting at naptime and after bedtime when the house is quiet and the kids are asleep. Mother artists / or anyone who is busy/ will be able to relate, anything we really want to do has to be prioritised and perhaps we have to surrender to only having a little bit of time some days. But still the non negotiable aspect of a project like this makes it possible to make time and space for it…
So mostly I have had to be creative, have multiple painting stations in the house, and grab the chance to create a little in moments of quiet play, at breakfast time or when everyone is asleep…
It is not easy to fit in but it has been such a joy to Add this to my daily routine.
My hope for this project was to really see what would come out of me, and find a common thread. It has also been to explore, and try new ideas, and techniques.
It seems like a process has emerged, and I have been using it for many of these 50 days.
It involves a lot of layering in watercolours and sometimes adding touches of soft pastels- more or less or none!
I can see my work is mostly made using earth tones, and often have a tranquil, calming feel. Painting is intuitive and meditative. The best ones are made when I can be in the flow state, a meditative state, in a quiet place both physically and mentally.
I am slowly putting together a series of work that I will release soon… it’s very likely to involve abstract watercolour landscapes, quiet yet powerful, ethereal paintings … let’s see how these evolve… stay tuned!
